From Garden to Cup: The Story Behind the Wolfe Hill Farm Tea Collection

For centuries, people have gathered herbs, flowers, fruits, and leaves from their gardens to create comforting teas. Long before tea was sold in tins and boxes, herbal infusions were prepared from plants growing just outside the kitchen door, connecting people to the seasons and the land around them.

At Wolfe Hill Farm, our Tea Collection was inspired by this tradition.

Each blend is thoughtfully crafted using herbs and botanicals selected for their flavor, aroma, and connection to the natural world. Many of the herbs featured in our teas are favorites of pollinators and play an important role in supporting healthy gardens and ecosystems.

A Tradition Rooted in History

Herbal teas, often called tisanes, have been enjoyed for thousands of years across cultures around the world. Chamomile was valued by the ancient Egyptians, Greeks, and Romans. Mint has been cultivated for culinary and herbal use since antiquity. Lemon balm has long been grown in monastery gardens throughout Europe, prized for its fresh citrus aroma and versatility.

While modern tea often refers to black, green, or white tea made from the Camellia sinensis plant, herbal teas offer a caffeine-free alternative created from leaves, flowers, fruits, roots, and seeds.

Today, the simple act of brewing a cup of tea remains a way to slow down, connect with nature, and enjoy the flavors of the season.

Meet the Herbs in Your Cup

Our collection features a variety of herbs and botanicals chosen for both flavor and beauty.

Chamomile

Known for its cheerful daisy-like blooms, chamomile contributes soft floral notes with hints of apple and is beloved by pollinators throughout the growing season.

Lavender

A garden favorite that attracts bees and butterflies, lavender brings delicate floral sweetness and a fragrant aroma to herbal blends.

Lemon Balm

A member of the mint family, lemon balm offers bright citrus notes and is often one of the busiest plants in the garden when pollinators are active.

Peppermint and Spearmint

Refreshing and cooling, these classic herbs provide the crisp character found in many traditional herbal teas while attracting beneficial insects to the garden.

Calendula

Sometimes called the "garden sunshine flower," calendula adds beautiful color and gentle herbal notes while supporting pollinator health.

Lemongrass

With its fresh citrus aroma and bright flavor, lemongrass creates vibrant hot or iced tea blends.

Orange Peel and Lemon Peel

These botanicals contribute bright citrus character and have been used for generations to add flavor and fragrance to herbal preparations.

Oat Straw

Harvested from the green stems of oat plants, oat straw lends body and a smooth finish to herbal tea blends.
